Byline, E-merge and On-line
1998 Adelaide Fringe Festival
Does critical writing add or detract from our appreciation of the craft object? Do objects have messages, and how might they be best conveyed? Byline was a series of seminars and debates presented by Craftsouth during the 1998 Adelaide Festival Fringe. Byline explored the relationship between craft and text by combining theory and practice - each seminar featured a writer and a maker, combining the challenge of theory with the demands of practice.
Documentation of the seminar program is available by visiting the Byline website.
Coinciding with Byline, Craftsouth held two exhibitions during the 1998 Adelaide Festival Fringe. E-merge featured work by emerging artist members of Craftsouth and Craft ACT, while On-line provided a digital tableau of innovative, eccentric and desirable contemporary craft, displayed each night of the Fringe on a giant screen in Rundle Street, opposite the popular Adelaide coffee spot Al Fresco's.
